Parent's Role
FUNCO is a nonprofit, 100% parent-run preparatory program. We welcome children ages 2.5–5, and potty training is not required.
Each parent participates by working a designated day and holding one of approximately 20 roles within the program. These roles include board members, Parent of the Day (POD), teachers, fundraising coordinators, field trip coordinators, safety/auditors, supply coordinators, party planners, yearbook coordinators, and cleaning & toy coordinators.
Five parents support each program day (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday), including a POD, a teacher, and three Child Watchers (who also fulfill one of the additional roles listed above). Wednesdays are reserved for field trips.
Located in a quiet residential neighborhood in Tustin, our school leases space at the Boys & Girls Club of Tustin with access to their full resources on site.
There is plenty of indoor and outdoor space to explore and play; your child can play games and run in the full court basketball gym, imagine and create in a secure and gated outdoor play area, participate in our dedicated classroom space learning phonics, math, science and social-emotional skills through parent-led activities including fine motor crafts, sensory play, imaginative play, teacher led read-alouds, and show and tell, or view a variety of animals on-site including chinchillas, frogs, ball pythons, millipedes, and more!

The daily schedule is designed to provide a balanced and engaging experience for each child. The day begins with morning circle time, followed by an hour of exploration at four rotating learning centers: a themed craft, sensory activity, academic lesson, and imaginative play. Children are grouped by age during this time to support more personalized learning. A social-emotional learning (SEL) lesson follows, along with music and movement in the gym and a hands-on activity that reinforces the weekly theme. The morning continues with snack time, an interactive read-aloud, show and tell, closing circle, and outdoor play. Non-enrolled younger siblings, including infants, may attend on a parent’s working day; however, space is limited.
Our program year begins the Monday after Labor Day and concludes on the last Thursday in May. Drop-off takes place from 8:45–9:00 a.m., and pick-up is from 11:40–11:50 a.m. On assigned working days, parents are required to arrive by 8:30 a.m. and are dismissed at 12:00 p.m.
